Katana Shinsakutō “Ryūsui” – T10 Blade with Water Dragon Horimono
Hand-forged T10 katana with choji hamon and hand-carved horimono
The Shinsakutō “Ryūsui” is a traditionally forged Japanese sword that blends aesthetics, performance, and symbolism. Inspired by classical nihontō while offering the reliability of modern craftsmanship, this katana features a razor-sharp T10 high-carbon steel blade with clay-tempered choji hamon, deep and beautifully contrasted. The Water Dragon horimono, carved by hand into the steel, represents mastered strength and fluid movement.
The partial bohi, beginning 20 cm from the habaki, lightens the blade without compromising durability and enhances the acoustics during cutting practice. The overall design is both refined and harmonious: midnight-blue tsuka over real samegawa, double white silk sageo, and brown lacquered saya, creating a traditional yet elegant appearance. With its O-kissaki and a well-balanced weight of 1040 g, this katana is suitable for iaido practitioners and collectors alike.

Symbolism of the Water Dragon
In Japanese culture, the Water Dragon (Ryūsui) embodies wisdom, inner power, and serene authority. It represents the perfect balance between strength and calmness. Engraved into the steel through the horimono, it gives the katana a spiritual and artistic dimension — reminding us that the sword is the extension of the samurai’s soul.
A katana inspired by tradition, forged for today
The Ryūsui revives the proportions, lines, and finishes of Edo-period katanas. Hand-forged and meticulously assembled, it honors the three essential principles of the Japanese sword: balance, elegance, and effectiveness. Its color combination — midnight-blue tsuka, white sageo and brown lacquered saya — reflects the sobriety and nobility of ancient blades.
Whether for rigorous practice or for a prestigious collection, the Katana Shinsakutō “Ryūsui” is made for those who seek an authentic, razor-sharp sword faithful to the spirit of traditional nihontō.
